Keynote Speaker

 

J. Ann Tickner is Professor in the School of International Relations at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles. She researches feminist perspectives on international relations theory, with a particular focus on ways of reconceptualising security. Ann Tickner was president of the International Studies Association (ISA) of North America in 2006-2007, which represents more than 3,000 members from more than 80 countries worldwide.  Martin Griffiths names her in his Fifty Key Thinkers in International Relations.

Claire Slatter  

Claire Slatter, a Fiji citizen, teaches ethics at the Fiji National University where she is Head of the School of Social Sciences. Claire previously taught politics for 17 years at the University of the South Pacific. She holds a PhD in Public Policy from Massey University, and an MA in Political Science from ANU. Her regional research interests include economic, financial and trade liberalisation, public sector reforms, land reforms, regional fisheries, women's employment and economic rights, and social movements.  She has written and spoken widely on these interlinked issues Claire is a founding member of the global network of feminist scholars and activists from the economic south, DAWN (Development Alternatives with Women for a New Era), and was the network's General Coordinator from 1997-2004. She is also a founding member of the Citizens' Constitutional Forum in Fiji.
